Baco is a hybrid grape variety, discovered by the teacher François Baco, a nurseryman in the Landes and passionate about viticulture. The genetic origin is a crossing of the Folle Blanche and Noah grape varieties carried out in 1898 after the phylloxera crisis. It is also known under the names Baco 22A, Maurice-baco and Piquepoul de pays.

Its physiological characteristics make it a grape variety naturally resistant to bad weather and diseases. It remains only present in the Armagnac appellation where it produces eaux-de-vie of great finesse. This 100% BACO 10 years old is a low Armagnac made with vintages, the youngest of which has at least 10 years of aging in barrels.

Maturation

In Gascony oak barrels.

Tasting commentary

Barely entering “adolescence”, this blend of several vintages of Baco attracts us with its amber-gold color with brilliant reflections. The first scents reveal a remarkable aromatic richness both in its power and in the notes of intertwined spices such as pepper and vanilla. A hint of toasted almond melted into fresh flower flavors like carnation tickles our nostrils.

The appetizer perfects our approach with a round and smooth attack, its amplitude allows us to discover touches of clove and toasted almond leading to a slightly pastry and cocoa finish.
